Obituary

Elizabeth 'Liz' Jefferies, 67, was born June 28, 1949 in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Sam and Mae Eliza (Valentine) Gaston. Her parents, three brothers, and five sisters all preceded her in death. She was educated in the public schools of Helena, Arkansas and graduated from Eliza Miller High School in 1967. She relocated to Kansas City after graduation in June of 1967. She worked for Sears department store until starting her home daycare in 1979. She continued to work until her health began to fall. Elizabeth met and married Thomas D Jefferies Sr. on December 16, 1967. They were married for 49.5 years. Three kids were born to this union: Thomas, Vernessa, and Shalonda. Liz was baptized at a young age. She became a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church on December 4, 1977 under pastorage of Pastor Carl Johnson, Pastor George Ervin, and current Pastor Gregory Stevens. She faithfully served the Lord and her church by being a Sunday School teacher, member of the Senior Saints, serving on the kitchen Bereavement committee, the Singing Doves of Peace Choir and the Senior Choir. Elizabeth departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Thomas D. Jefferies Sr.; one son, Thomas D. Jefferies Jr. (Shawnta) of Lee's Summit MO, two daughters, Vernessa Rashaw (Bruce) and Shalonda Bolden (Brad) both of Kansas City MO; three granddaughters, Brittneigh Bolden, Jasmine Jefferies, Maya Jefferies; three brothers, Elder William Gaston of Toledo, OH, Earnest Gaston (Mary) of Camden, AR, and Leroy Burke of Elaine, AR; one uncle Albert Valentine of Detroit, MI; best friends, Stella Berymon of Belton, MO and Verlor King of Dallas, TX; the Fulghem family Jarkis, Shannon, and their two sons Kamal and Jared whom she loved as her own; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other loved ones. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
