Obituary

Mrs. Ellen Jeanne Reynolds, age 104, entered into eternal peace on Saturday December 31, 2016 at Carondelet Manor, Kansas City, MO. Ellen was one of nine children born to the union of Henry Columbus Lee and Janie Bennett Lee in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Ellen was born on June 5, 1912. Ellen lived a fruitful life receiving her B.A. Degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Master's Degree in Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In Detroit, she married Warren Joseph Reynolds, a former Warrant Officer in the Army, WWII. He loved Ellen and their daughter, Beverly, dearly and worked two jobs to help sustain his family. Warren was a foreman at the United States Post Office and a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools. For more than 30 years, Ellen taught many academic elementary school courses and grades at Claude J. Miller in the Ecorse Michigan Public School System. Artistically talented, she helped her coworkers prepare artwork for the school projects, classrooms and bulletin boards - hand drawing perfect letters and pictures. She retired in 1976. Ellen and Warren loved to travel and visited many of the United States and Europe, took cruises and made many friends along the way. One annual trip was with a group of friends to the big Michigan game in Ann Arbor. Ellen and Warren were married for 40 years. After Warren's passing, Ellen moved to Denver to be near her daughter and granddaughters. Ellen and Warren loved Quiera dearly and often traveled during summer breaks and holidays to Denver to see her. Quiera would also travel to see Ellen and Warren in Detroit when she could. For her 100th Birthday she received recognition as a Colorado Centurion from the Colorado Commission on Aging and became a life member of the National Urban League. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Warren and siblings Harvey, Ethel, Hazel, John, Othel, Herbert, her twin Ambrose and Altha. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Phillips, granddaughter Quiera Smith, great granddaughter Christiana Smith, and numerous loving nieces, nephews and family members. A Celebration of Life will be held at Saturday, June 3, 11:00 a.m. at the Rosa Parks Chapel in Detroit, MI.
