Obituary

Elma Lee Smith, 88, was born April 25, 1928 in Sherrill, Arkansas to Leslie and Searina Wilborn. She was educated in the Arkansas Public School System. Elma was united in Marriage to Louis J. Smith. From this marriage there were five children, one of which preceded her in death, Cynthia. Louis and Elma moved to the KCKS area in 1946 and relocated to KCMO in 1959. Elma was always a hard working lady and was a very generous, loving and caring person. She was employed at Richards Gebaur AFB, the Federal Building, and The Veterans Administration Hospital from which she retired 1993. Her Christian affiliation began at Mount Zion Baptist Church and then on to several other churches including Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, and Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Elma sang in the choir, served on bereavement committees, missions, and the mother board. Elma loved to cook, and was excellent at it. She was always ready to prepare a tasty and mouth watering dish or dessert for your palate to enjoy! Mother also enjoyed playing the piano in her spare time and was good at pressing, curling and styling hair, and loved pets. Elma departed this life July 11, 2016 at 12:51 pm. Her work here was done! She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie Wilborn and Eddie Lee Wilborn; and two sisters, Oretha Wilson and Mildred Jones. Her memories will be cherished by her only son Lewis A. Smith; three daughters, Linda Hart, Rhonda Mosby (Herman) and Joyce Yvette Smith, all of KCMO; two brothers, Herman Wilborn (Addie) and Fred Wilborn (Pam); three sisters, Vivian Taylor (Lawrence) of KCKS, Serina Robinson (Albert) of Marvell AR and Juanita Morrow (Wendell) of St. Louis, MO; honorary family, Juanita Johnson, Birdell Gilbert, Josephine Thomas, Georgia McGill, Willie B. Richardson, Leavetta Dennis, 'Dimple' Dennis, Shirley Gregory and 'Bridget'; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, acquaintances and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 16, 12:00 p.m. at Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
