Emmitt Everett Gregory, Jr., 86, KCMO, passed away on January 26, 2017. He was born April 4, 1930 in Leigh, Texas to Emmitt E. Gregory, Sr. and Clementine (Boone) Gregory. His parents along with five sisters, three grandsons and a stepdaughter, Bessie Lee Anderson preceded her in death. Emmitt gave his life to Christ at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church in Leigh, Texas. He joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church on February 19, 1989. As a faithful member, he served on the Senior Usher Board and New Era District Usher Board, and helped with Camp Palestine. Emmitt graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Karnack, Texas and later attended the U.S. Auto Mechanics School. He worked Armour Packing House until its closing and then went on to work for General Motors in Leeds, from which he retired in October 1991. As a United States Army Veteran, Emmitt served in the Korean War before being honorably discharged. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he met Leavyetta Jean McCoy and married her in July 1954. To this union was born three sons, Emmitt III, Henry Tyrone and Rupert O. Gregory. Their marriage was later dissolved in 1972. Emmitt was united in marriage to Fannie B. McCoy on July 25, 1976. She preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: three sons, Emmitt E. Gregory III, Henry T. Gregory and Rupert O. Gregory (Charlene); three stepson, Earl McCoy (Deirdre), Leon McCoy (Sherry) and Charles McCoy (Kathy); one brother, Scott Gregory (Manerva); one sister, Mary Lou Graves of Texas; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends all of who will mourn his life and homegoing. Funeral services will be Friday, February 3, 11:00 a.m. at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Interment Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
