Mrs. Erma Mae Johnson, 82, was born April 24, 1934 to Rev. Alphonse and Mayola Webb in Mobile, Alabama. She was the youngest of five children. Erma Mae was educated in the Mobile, Alabama school system graduating from Wilson High School. She later attended Penn Valley Community College. Mrs. Erma worked various jobs in her life including the Kansas City School District, J.E. Dunn Construction, Alameda Plaza and retiring from Kingswood Manor. Erma Mae Johnson first attended Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in the early 60's under the leadership of Rev. Jones. She and her family later moved their membership to Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr. She returned her final membership to Mt. Vernon under the leadership of the late Pastor A.O. Johnson and current pastor Rev. Donald Givens. Erma Mae was married the love of her life, Hilton Johnson, Jr. and to this union five children were born. After fifty-eight years of marriage Hilton Jr. preceded her in death on September 8, 2014. Erma Mae was an outstanding mother, not just to her children but to the entire community. She was the Angel of Mercy for 40th & Prospect for over fifty years. Mrs. Erma Johnson peacefully departed this earthly life on Monday, November 21, 2016. Amongst other family welcoming her to her heavenly home are both parents, Rev. Alphonse and Mayola Webb; two brothers, Nathanial and Alphonse; her eldest son, Kelly in December of 2005; an infant grandson, Hilton IV and great grandson, Kevon Watson. She leaves her love and memories with three sons, Hilton Johnson III, Alphonse Johnson (LeAndrea) and Kerman Johnson; one daughter, Gwendolyn Johnson; two sisters, Alvenia Ellis and Gertrude Johnson both of Mobile, AL; a concerned and loving sister-in-law, Annie Mae Livingston of California; fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, her extended family of 40th & Prospect, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 3, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
