Aug 4, 1954 — Mar 25, 2020
Ernesta Jann McNeal, 65, was born August 4, 1954 to Ernest and Jannie Smith in Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, Reginald Smith.
She was raised and educated in the Kansas City, MO public school system. Later in life she was able to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated December 2011 from MCC - Penn Valley at the age of 56 with a degree in Licensed Practical Nursing. She accomplished this longtime dream all while caring for her ailing mother.
She worked as an LPN for Laura Lynn, CareStaf and CSL until her health began to fade. She could infuse humor into any situation and faced cancer with grace, courage, resilience and faith. She never complained and remained strong until the very end. She passed March 25, 2020 at KU Medical Center.
Ernesta was a strong believer in God and she attended church faithfully. She was a member of Sheffield Family Life Center.
A Mother, Nana, Sister and Friend to many. Ernesta had the sweetest spirit and an affectionate laugh. She was extremely creative. She had a passion for sewing, DIY projects, good food, aerobics, volunteer work and just enjoyed life. She loved spending time with her children, grandkids and great grandkids. She was so excited that she was able to meet her first great granddaughter.
Left to treasure a legacy of precious memories and wisdom are her children: LaDonna (David) Holder, Dillard (Shalaya) McNeal and Marlon McNeal;brothers: Rayfield Smith and Glenn Smith; seven grandchildren, Marquis McNeal, Mikayla McNeal, Mariah Roberts, Autumn McNeal, Dillard McNeal, Destiny Washington, and Tray-vonne McNeal; three great grandchildren: Messiah Maxwell, Mekhi McNeal and Mekenzie Love; a host of other relatives and friends.
