Evangelist Pamela L. Mayfield, 61, died on Thursday, July 2, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on October 31, 1958 to the union of Garnet Garrett and Danella (Pippens) Garrett in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents and her sister, Glenda Daniels preceded her in death.
Pamela and sister Glenda grew up under the watchful eyes of her parents. During her childhood, the family worshipped at the Skylight Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T. L. Arnick. She spent a lot of time visiting her family in Menifee, Arkansas, as a teenager she worked in her parents record store, Garrett's Record Shop, located on 38th & Prospect Avenue. Her work there enabled her to become very familiar with the gospel music community and with a number of gospel artists. Her love of music was ignited and at a young age, she began taking piano lesson. Pamela's artistry included playing both the piano and the Hammond B3 organ.
Pamela was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District and graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1976. She attended Penn Valley Community College and received an Associates Degree in Business Administration.
Pamela worked as a paraprofessional in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She had a gift for reaching the hearts and minds of at risk children and through her anointing gained the love and respect of many children in the Kansas City area.
Pamela married James R. Mayfield in 1985 and this union two sons were born Aaron, July 27, 1989 and Joshua January 16, 1991. She passed on her love of music to her sons who are both accomplished musicians.
Pamela co-founded St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City. The church later became St. Peter's Full Gospel Baptist Church. Through her preaching and her genuine love for the Lord the ministry grew. As she would play the organ or piano under the anointing, she was able to touch hearts and reach people. The Lord gave her a great resposibility in ministry and Sisters Reaching Sisters was birthed and later became Sisters Reaching Out to Sisters. The meetings started with a small group of women, but because of Pamela's leadership and evangelism, later the gatherings drew women from across the country.
Steve Scott and her son, Aaron, would play the organ and keyboard. Her son, Josh would play the drums. When Pamela would come forward to preach, the meetings would shift to a deliverance service where many women were blessed and set free.
Evangelist Mayfield served in the music ministries at slect churched in the Kansas City area be fore moving to Las Vegas to enjoy the weather and the mountains. There she met her dear companion, served as the minister of music at a local church and pursued her real estate license.
Pamela had many spiritual children that she brought into her home and raised as her own. Tonya Buchanan and Rachelle Coleman was her special goddaughters. Pastor Arsenial Runion was her special godson. She was known far and wide as a classy lady of fashion. She was always well groomed and attractively attired. It was said that her closet looked like a lavish department store. She loved to travel and because of her love of fashion, she just couldn't seem to bring herself to "pack light". She would unselfishly take her children on shopping trips with her so they could actually experience the better things in life.
Pamela gained a daughter-in-law, when Aaron and Jessica married in 2015 and from thier union she became "Glam-Ma" to Gloria Skye Mayfield born in 2020. In 2018 Pamela was blessed with a loving a daughter-in-law when Josh united in matrimony with Aundrea.
Pamela leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Aaron Mayfield (Jessica); Joshua Mayfield (Aundrea); granddaughter, Gloria Skye Mayfield; nephews, Ryan Christian and Andre Christian; goddaughter, Tonya Buchanan (Efford); special cousins, Michelle Holland and DanElla Scott; special friend and caregiver, Ronald Lloyd "Duke" Wall, a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 11:00 am at Christian Tabernacle Church of God In Christ. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation Saturday 9:00am-10:45am at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to the COVID 19 Panademic guest attending services are required to wear mask per the family and the new City Ordinance. Services will be live streamed Facebook live and You Tube.
