Franklyn Stone Williams, 56, was born November 27, 1960, sixth of seven children to the union Jack and Fannye Williams at the Queen of the World Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Beatrice Williams, brothers Jack Jr. and Deering Wayne, sister Sandra, nephew Jason and niece Tonya. Franklyn was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School District, graduating from Central Senior High School in 1979. He was one of the first students to attend the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center and was as the first student of the learning center to skip a grade in math due to his academic excellence. Franklyn also attended the Presidential Classroom for Young Americans in Washington D.C. After graduation he furthered his education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While in Louisiana, Franklyn discovered his passion for cooking which would lead to his chosen profession. As a child, Franklyn was a member of the Wabash Avenue Church of God under the leadership of Rev. Odis Walker. At the time of his passing he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quindaro, with Rev. Lemuel Wynn pastor. Franklyn was active as an usher, in the Male Chorus and the Kitchen Ministry of the church. Franklyn was employed at Houlihan's restaurant and held cooking positions at various restaurants throughout the city during his career. He was also the head cook for the Boys Club of Kansas City. Franklyn fancied himself a Bar-B-Que Pitt master, competing several times in the Lenexa and American Royal Bar-B-Que contest. He had also owned a delicatessen. Franklyn was an avid sports fan with his life long support of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He coached youth sports for many years and was also a member of the John Thornberry Boys Club. Franklyn was married to Liesa Brown, the marriage was later dissolved. He met and married Arletta Taylor, that marriage was also dissolved. Franklyn never met a stranger. He was blessed with a quick wit, a charming smile and his billowing laugh. He was a true friend to many and was always willing to share words of encouragement. Franklyn departed this life on May 16, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Taylor Yvonne Evian Brown; sisters, Debra Lewis and Michelle Williams; brother, William Williams and his cousin, Leon Dixon with whom he had a very close relationship; his aunt, Mrs. Louise Bragg of Cleveland, OH; nephews and niece, Vincent, Tamara, Brandon and Devin; his long time friend and roommate, Michael Voss. He also leaves many great nephews and nieces, a great-great niece and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, May 26, 12:00 p.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
