Obituary

Freddie B. Asberry, Sr., 81 years of age, was born February 23, 1944 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to Holley Asberry and Mary Ellen Reed. Freddie was a loving husband, extraordinary father, uncle, grandfather, devoted friend, the epitome of strength and inspiration, and so much more.

He grew up in Holly Springs, Mississippi and came to Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 17. In early1970 Freddie met the love of his life, Genova Kearney, whom he married on December 19, 1970, and shared 54 blissful years of happiness with her. He was a loving, caring, and committed husband and father. Freddie's tenacious attitude took him farther than any diploma or degree could take a man.

He was employed at the Bendix Corporation Manufacturing Plant located in Kansas City, Missouri for 3 years. He then became an Insurance Sales Agent for one year where he once again excelled and in1988 he found his true purpose in life - that was being his own BOSS. In 1988, Freddie started his trucking business and named it "B and G Trucking." His love for over-the-road and dump trucks kept him self- employed until his health started to decline making it impossible for him to drive. He

was an astute real estate investor who had a wise business partner (Genova), and they acquired and managed five rental properties.

Freddie held a strong passion for chess and boxing. His chess table was always set, and he welcomed anyone who thought they could beat him to have a seat. Many will tell you that it was next to impossible to beat him playing chess. During his tenure as a boxing coach, in 1981, he received two Tomahawk Boxing Show Awards for his outstanding performance as a boxing trainer, coach, and mentor. Ten years later, On May 9, 1991, he was recognized as Boxing Coach of the Year.

However, the greatest hallmark achievement of his life was being a parent, he held high aspirations for his five children and instilled in them the importance of academic success and professional growth.

He was preceded in death by his parents Holly Asberry and Mary Ellen Reed, three brothers: Roger Robinson, Roy (Leroy) Reed, Charles Rounds, two sisters: Helen Herron and Bernita Rounds.

Freddie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Genova Asberry of the home. Five children - Freddie B. Asberry, Jr. (Camica) of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Steven Asberry/Umar Seifuddin (Chereese) of Chino Hills, California; Priscilla Asberry Rayson (Garfield) of Chula Vista, California, Marla Asberry and Rochelle Asberry of Raytown, Missouri.
