Obituary

Geneva Lee Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was born to William H. Johnson and Velmar Wells. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William A. Smith; her son, William Leonard Johnson; granddaughter, Danyell Johnson; brother-in-law, Jessie Dorn; and son-in-law, O.D. West.

Educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public school system, Geneva later earned a Computer Science degree from Purdue University in 1975. A devoted homemaker for much of her life, she lovingly raised eight children before beginning her career with the federal government. She served faithfully as a clerk until her retirement in 2000.

Geneva's life was defined by her faith and her heart for others. She loved God deeply and lived out her belief in the power of prayer, serving as a dedicated prayer warrior. She was a long-time member of Grace Communion International and, for the past 20 years, an active member of Church of God Kansas City. There, she sang in the choir, performed special music, and shared her gifts through sewing, gardening, and countless creative projects. An entrepreneur at heart, Geneva pursued many small business ventures. She also enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, reading, listening to music, and collecting jazz figurines.

She leaves to cherish her memory seven children: William's wife, Linda; Crystal West (O.D.); Deborah Johnson; Robert Johnson; Cynthia Wood (Adrian); Janice Johnson; Exavier Johnson (Vanette); and Omar Johnson (Sonji). She is also survived by one brother, Lonnie Johnson (Mary); one sister, Geraldine Dorn; 15 grandchildren: Tracey, Emanuel Johnson, William Johnson II, Sheila Jones, Allen Johnson (Valencia), Michael Johnson (Jennifer), Teona Johnson, Antonio Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson (Rikayah), Adrianna Wood, Joseph Wood, Deborah Crowell, Nicole Johnson, Kya Eason, Javier Johnson, and Jireh Wright (Jason); 24 great-grandchildren; her special niece, Renee Brandon; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including her longtime friend, Ann Molix.

Geneva will be remembered for her unwavering faith, boundless love, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
