Georgetta 'Gigi' Counce was born on September 1, 1949, to the union of George and Katie (Ettress) Davis in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James W. Counce, brothers Cornelius Lucas Jr., Kenneth Lucas, Ardis Lucas and sisters Beverly Miller, Barbara Lucas-Wilson, and Bertha Kingyon. Georgetta was educated in the Kansas City Public Schools graduating from Lincoln High School in 1967. A few short years later she met the love of her life James W. Counce. Because these two people fell in love Georgetta's life was forever changed. Together they welcomed two sons James C. Counce and Jamiel Counce, and one daughter Jaquima Counce. Georgetta's house was bursting with the love and energy of her family. Holidays would bring a house full of her siblings, neighbors, church members and children. She treasured every moment she spent with her family and friends, and loved beating them at Scrabble. Her love for her family came only second to her love for the Lord. The daughter of a Baptist Minister, she accepted Christ at an early age when she was baptized at the Starlight Baptist Church. For nearly thirty years she was an active and engaged member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Georgetta sang in the choir, served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Missionary Board-Junior Mission which met regularly for bible study, visited the sick and cooked for those in need. Her husband's salvation led her to Joy Bells Ministries where she continued her in-depth study of the Bible. "Always, thirsting to know the Lord more," she would organize and participate in women's gatherings at all of her church homes. Frequently jotting scripture and sermon notes in the margins of her program she would continue her Bible study at home. Georgetta also worked as an Executive Secretary for the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for nearly 25 years until her retirement in 2014. She established a reputation for being organized and meticulous, but she will be eternally remembered for her immeasurable generosity. She was always offering a helping hand, a word of prayer or a simple cup of tea. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sons James C. (Denise) Counce of Hampton, Virginia and Jamiel Counce of Kansas City, Missouri; daughters Jaquima (Ralph) Counce-Wells, Monica (Raymond) Counce-Smith and Tiffany Counce of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law Kathy Lucas; brother-in-law Carl Kingyon; grandchildren Jamya, Jasmine, Janay, Jawuan, Michael, Azjah, Jamiel, James, and Jaila; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
