Obituary

Geraldine Irene Watson, 71, affectionately known as 'Jeri', was born October 11, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri to James Verner and Cleopatra Atwell Watson. Both parents, her brother James Verner Watson, Jr., and her beloved Aunt Marjorie, to whom she provided love and care, preceded her in death. Jeri professed her faith at a young age and was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church for over sixty years. She was a faithful member of Class 20 Sunday School, where she developed her love of Bible Study and understanding of the Word. Jeri graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963, and furthered her education at Kansas City Junior College. She found her calling when she graduated with a Certification in Radiology Technology. She began her career at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she was one of the first African American students in their program. In 1972, she became a devoted mother to Donna Christine, whom she adored. In 1973, she began working at Research Medical Center from which she retired after thirty-seven years of service in 2010. Upon retirement, she served as a caregiver to her mother and her aunt. Jeri was devoted to her church, family and friends. She was a loving and sweet person. She leaves to celebrate her life: her daughter, Donna C. Watson of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Margo Watson of Kansas City, MO; nieces, Margo Macey (Kevin) of Cincinnati, OH, Jenee' Councilman (Scott) of Scotts Valley, CA and Michaela White (A.J.) of Kansas City, MO; great nephews, A.J. White, Jr. and Miles White. She also leaves her 'Sista-Friends', Willa A. Shaw and Geneva Moore; 'Brotha-Cousins', John Shields, Jr. (Lee), Eppie Shields and a host of loved family and friends all who loved her so much.
