Gilbert C. Simmons, Jr., "Monk" was born on May 4, 1958 to the parents of Gilbert and Bonnie Simmons. Gilbert departed this life on February 5, 2020. His father Gilbert, Sr. and sister Rita preceded him in death.

Gilbert was a life long resident of Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended D.A. Holmes Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in 1976.

Gilbert began his career at Marilyn Shoe Store as a shoe sales man while still in High School and later worked himself up to manager. others jobs included Cablevision, City Wide and SG 360. He also did several odd jobs in his spare time.

In 1979 he joined the Marines Reserve and was stationed in San Diego, California until 1985.

He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Schontell Harlin and Janese Boyd(Desmond); his girlfriend, Tina Elbert who he loved dearly and adored; his mother, Bonnie Simmons; one brother, Kevin(Karen); four sisters, Adoria and Gilda, Deidra and Dawn; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service Saturday, February 15, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at Sheffield Family Life Center. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Service conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
