Glenn R.
Payne
Jan 1, 1953 — Jul 19, 2018
Glenn Ray Payne, 65, passed away on July 19, 2018 at Research Medical Center. He was born January 1, 1953 in Kansas City, Kansas to Leo Payne, Sr. and Betty L. (Scroggins) Payne. His father, Leo Payne, Sr.; mother Betty L. West; three brothers, Leo Payne, Julius Payne, Edward Gilbert; and three nephews, Richard Woods, Tony Payne and Leo Whitebear preceded him in death.
Glenn was affectionately known to everyone as "Popsicle", or "Pops" for short. Pops was educated in Kansas City and was a graduate of West High School, where he would flourish as an ROTC cadet. At an early age he joined and was baptized at Greenwood Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1972, Pops was united in marriage to Mary (Carter) Payne and to this union two children were born, Precious and Paris. Pops was employed by Ford Motor Company where he would retire with 40 plus years of service.
Throughout his life, Pops was generous, caring and kind. He was thoughtful and was always willing to go great lengths to please and help anyone and everyone. Pops was amazingly patient and compassionate. He displayed unconditional love and was never judgmental. He had a heart of gold and would give you his last. He had a great sense of humor and when he made jokes they were witty and hilarious. Pops will be deeply missed for his fashionable taste and array of suits colors with matching accessories including sunglasses and walking canes.
Pops was an enthusiastic collector. He collected everything from baseball cards, albums, movies, pictures, cologne to even junk; however, his most prized possessions were his toys. His every Saturday outing would include 63rd Street Swap n Shop, the Super Flea on St. John Avenue and multiple grocery stores. He enjoyed cooking and baking, but most importantly he loved spending time with family and friends. Frequently, he would host Sunday dinners; everyone was always invited, and no one was a stranger. Family was an important aspect of his life. He cherished his sisters and brothers and the adoration he had for his children and grandchildren went unspoken.
He leaves to treasure his memory: his daughter, Precious Stenson (Rahsan); son, Paris Payne (Aleasha); grandchildren, Erykah "Pooh Bear", Ronald "RJ", Paris Jr. "PJ", Rahden "ThunderCat", Zhamya, Rahsan Jr., Iyonna and Rahmelo; two brothers, William "Bill" Gilbert (Evelyn) and James Arthur Gilbert (Mindy); three sisters, Marion Sherman (James), Geraldine "Jeri" Riley and Sarah Gilbert; one special sister-in-law, Elana "Scat" Payne and an abundance of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins, special loved ones and friends.
