Gwendolyn Rich, 90, was born August 18, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri, the second eldest child born to the union of Eugene and Addie L. (Johnson) Standifer. She was preceded in by her parents and her siblings, Eugene, Jr., Geraldine, Jerome "Spooky", Kenneth, Donald Lee and (Baby) Charles.
Gwen accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Methodist faith for many years. Her most recent membership was with Grace Assembly of God.
Gwen was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, attending R.T. Coles Vocational School and graduating from Lincoln High School. She furthered her education and received numerous certificates in bookkeeping and accounting.
Gwen was employed by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA). She held various positions at the KCATA as a driver and also as a bookkeeper until she retired. Gwen also served as the treasurer for the KC Chapter of the Business and Professional Women's League for several years. She was an amazing seamstress and a world traveler.
She departed this life quietly in her sleep at her home of almost sixty years on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Fred Rich and Richanda Turner; grandchildren, Tina Harris, Preston Rich, Earl Hicks, Jason Turner, James Turner, Gwynne Molina, Carmen Cabine and Angie Tabor; nephews and nieces, Linda Parker, Donna, Anthony, Kim, John, and Tracy Standifer, Elaine Milton, Alan Harris and Deborah Johnson; special loved ones, Aurora Winn & family, Jeanne Mahone & Family, Luanna Craig & family, Darlene Howard & family, and Ms. Jerrie L. Baker-Lee; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services Monday, August 26, 11:00 a.m. at New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
