Obituary

Harriett Nancy Hankins was born on July 18, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas, to proud parents that preceded her in death, Leon Jackson and Evelyn Hankins. From an early age, Harriett displayed a warm and caring spirit that would touch the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was raised in Kansas City, where she attended schools within the Kansas City, Missouri school district, forming lifelong friendships and building the foundation for the compassionate and dedicated woman she would become.

Harriett spent much of her professional life working in service to others. She was employed by Dillard's Department Store, where she worked diligently and eventually retired. Her strong work ethic and warm personality also led her to a career at Kauffman Stadium, where she spent 11 years sharing her infectious smile with fans and staff alike. Additionally, she dedicated 16 years to the Kansas City, Missouri public school system, where she touched the lives of countless children and colleagues through her kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to her community.

Beyond her professional life, Harriett was known for her genuine love of people. She never met a stranger and had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her laughter could brighten even the darkest of days, and her generosity knew no bounds. Whether she was offering a listening ear, sharing a warm embrace, or simply bringing joy through her presence, Harriett's kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She also loved travel and often commuted with her church and family members. She had a great sense of style, and was always a stylish dresser.

A woman of faith, Harriett was a devoted member of Canaan Worship Center. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and a deep sense of purpose. She cherished the fellowship of her church family and found great joy in serving others through her faith.

Harriett leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness. She is survived by her beloved son, Matthew Payne of Kansas City, Missouri, who was the pride and joy of her life. She also leaves to cherish her memory four loving sisters and one brother: Cynthia Jackson, Mary Morris, and Jesse Elbert of Kansas City, Missouri, Chaunceyetta Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia, Marzelia Gartrell of San Diego, California. In addition to her immediate family, Harriett is fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who were blessed to have shared in her life's journey.

While our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the cherished memories and the enduring impact Harriett had on everyone around her. Her warmth, kindness, and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten, as her legacy of love continues to inspire us all.
