Hazel Boyd, 93 of Kansas City, MO passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
Hazel Boyd was born to Arthur Scott and Mattie Nunley Scott on April 28, 1928 in Homer, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by husband E.N. Boyd, son, Clarence Edward Boyd, daughter Beverly Boyd and five brothers and four sisters.
She attended public schools in Homer, Louisiana and graduated from Homer Colored High School, class of 1946. She married her childhood sweetheart, E.N. Boyd on June 1, 1947.
She was employed at the Hollis chicken hatchery for a time, but her long-term employment was homemaker, which she enjoyed. She loved to bake tea cakes and everyone who tasted them was very glad she enjoyed baking. She was very active in her community where she supported the local school, often traveling with the band as a chaperone, and cheering the football team in the stands. She was also a member of Eastern Star Primrose Chapter 62.
She also had a strong faith and was a founding member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church serving on the usher board and even though she was not an official member of the choir, she led many devotional songs – her favorite being 'We Come A Long Way". She loved the Lord and lived a life sharing His love with all she met. She founded the 'Prayer Band' which led devotions in her home church. It continued to grow and was invited to lead devotions at other area churches. This was very dear to Hazel as she was a strong believer in the wonderous works of Jesus Christ and the power of prayer, and she was not ashamed to spread the good news!
She departed this life at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS on August 17, 2021. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son Ervell Boyd (Angela), Raytown MO; daughter, Sandra Cotton, Kansas City, MO; grandsons Dedric Cotton, EA Boyd (Larissa), Kelvin Boyd; granddaughters, Ebony Malray (Derrick), who was her very special caregiver for the past 4 years and Karondelet Sanders.
