Obituary

Helen Lois Walker, 79, was born August 31, 1938 in Clarksville, Texas, the eldest child of Samuel and Christelle Chivers. Both parents and a brother, Calvin Chivers preceded her in death.

The family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where Helen received her education in the Kansas City School District. In following her passion, she soon after enrolled in nursing school at the Queen of the World, where she earned her nursing license.

After receiving her nursing license, Helen was employed at St. Mary's Hospital for many years. She later worked for Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, from which she retired in 2004.

Within those years, on February 2, 1975 Helen married Javan L. Walker who also preceded her in death. With one child of her own she inherited three stepdaughters from this union.

Sister Helen Walker accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She loved the Lord and church family. She was a charter member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church for sixty-five years, being one of fifteen members when the church was organized on March 29 1952 under the leadership of Rev. Reuben Fields, visionary, organizer and pastor. She was a committed and faithful laborer until her health began to fail. Sister Walker sang in the choir, served as a trustee and senior adult director, led the health ministry, and regularly attended senior adult Sunday school and mid-day bible study.

God called her home to eternal peace with the Lord on March 14, 2018. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: two sisters, Samuelean Reed of Los Angeles, CA and Lorraine Nelson (Tex) of KCMO; four daughters, Annita Williams, Patricia Walker, Andrea Davis (Roy) and Deborah Johnson all of KCMO; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
