Obituary

Herbert LaRoy Dalton, Sr., 71, Independence, Missouri, affectionately known as 'Herbie' or 'Herb' was born on March 10, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri and was raised by his mother Clara Mae Miller and Howard Clay Miller, Jr. He became a father to his second child Geneva Dalton (Terry Jones), while married to his second wife Linda. Herbert was the father of four children, his first child Melanie Jones (Darryl) was born to his first wife Doris. Herb loved fishing with his family and especially his fishing buddy and cousin Terrell Johnson. He also loved sports and was a baseball coach and umpire. Herb was known for his infectious smile, great sense of humor, generosity and his kind and warm company. Herb graduated from Paseo High School where he starred in track and field, and receiving city and state honors. Shortly after graduating high school, he moved to California where he continued his pursuit of a career in music. He traveled from coast to coast drawing critical acclaims for his amazing singing voice and entertaining shows. In his teenage years Herbie developed a love and passion for playing music and entertaining people. Herb worked with many stars and was referenced in Time Magazine for his show 'Elvis in Living Color', which was a tribute to one of his favorite artists Elvis Presley. In 1977, he married his soulmate Pamela (Spratt) Dalton and fathered two more children, Herbie Jr. and Clarissa Dalton (Chris Scherzer). Herb departed this life December 26, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Clara Miller. Herb also has ten grandchildren, Darryl Jr., Courtney (Melanie), Brittanie, Breeannia (Geneva), Gabbie, Kadie, Brookie, C.J., Addie, and Jada (Herbie Jr.); one great grandchildren, Josiah (Breeannia). He leaves behind his aunt, Barbara Johnson and a host of cousins. Funeral services will be Friday, December 30, 2:00 p.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
