Herbert Lester Woods, Sr., 77, was born on Tuesday, November 7, 1939 in Kansas City Missouri and departed this life peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2017. He is now resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, John O. Woods and Marguerite l. Johnson-Woods; sister, Darlene Dale and five brothers, Lloyd Woods, Johnny Woods, Harold Woods, Thomas Woods and Delbert Woods. Herbert attended the Kansas City, Missouri Public Schools. He accepted Christ at an early age. He joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1992, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Donald D. Ford I, founder. He retired from Schutte Lumber Company in 2001 after 35 years of service. Herbert was loved by many and always had a story to tell. He enjoyed crafts, yard work, and spending time with family. He is survived by his loving wife, Katie Woods; children, Marion, Herbert Jr., Gary, Stella, Lonetta and Mario; grandchildren, Hydiyah and Mario Jr.; brother-in law, Andre Leonard (Ruth); three sisters-in law, Debbie Willis (Willard), Janice Martin (Calvin) and Priscilla Leslie; great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22, 2:00 p.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church of Grandview. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church.
