Horace Lee Johnson, 65, passed away on October 1, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born November 13, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Albert Sr. and Eddie Mae (Henderson) Johnson. His sister, Dessie Mae Finch preceded him in death. Horace was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas School District, and graduated from Wyandotte High School before furthering his education at Pittsburg College. Horace later enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country until being honorably discharged with a SP4 Rank. Horace was employed as a floor technician at Children's Mercy Hospital for a number of years. Horace accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a member of Grace Unlimited Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his brother, Rev. A.L. Johnson, Jr., where he served as an Associate Minister. He loved the Lord and stood as a true man of God. Horace was united in marriage to Ms. Maurene Hill on December 19, 1981 and was looking forward to celebrating thirty-six blessed years soon. He truly loved his family and often enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. He leaves to celebrate his homegoing: his wife, Maurene Johnson; two sons, William Hill (Shannon) and Glenn Smith; one daughter, Nancy Price (Clyde); four brothers, Dr. Carl Johnson (Helen), Rev. Bernard Johnson (Susan), Rev. A.L. Johnson (Shelia) and Eric Johnson (Teresa); four sisters, Annie Jewel Byrd (Kenneth), Laverne Mays (Michael), Teresa Hughley and Yolande Dean; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Tuesday, October 10, 10:30 a.m. at Grace Unlimited Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
