Hurlstone Richard
Nunes
Aug 9, 1959 — Jun 1, 2023
Hurlstone Nunes was born to parents, Ethel Robinson and Cassell Nunes on August 9, 1959, in Kingston, Jamaica.
In 1972, at the age of 13, Hurlstone migrated to the United States and resided in Mount Vernon, New York where he graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1977.
After high school, Hurlstone voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army, completing his basic training at Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning) near Columbus, Georgia and Advanced Infantry Training. From there, he received orders to Wiesbaden, Germany. After a successful tour, he was honorably discharged. He then attended and graduated from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Eventually, he moved to Kansas City, Kansas and met Michael lghoyivwi at a garage sale in the summer of 1985. This was the beginning of a longtime working relationship in the LORD, where Hurlstone and Michael served together at Wellborn Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas; as well as serving approximately three years on a prison ministry at Lansing Correctional Facility in Lansing, Kansas.
Pastor Nunes teamed again with Senior Pastor Michael lghoyivwi in the year 2002 at New Life Christian Fellowship and was immediately appointed as Assistant Pastor to Pastor Michael. There he spent the majority of his life in the ministry.
Around the year 2012, he met Leroy. Leroy had just visited New Life and these two immediately felt a binding connection based on unique world beliefs. Pastor Nunes suggested that Pastor Michael also appoint Leroy as an associate pastor.
Pastor Nunes and Pastor Leroy quickly became the closest of friends and were generally "joined at the hip"; living and working together. Pastors Michael, Hurlstone and Leroy were for all accounts - BROTHERS!!! Together, their ministry spread beyond the church into many area nursing homes.
Pastor Nunes was a POWERFUL preacher and a THOROUGH teacher of GOD and HIS WORD. One would be hard-pressed to come away from any of his teaching without learning and retaining wisdom.
He was a very excited and engaged bachelor, looking forward to wed Rosemary Trust Oki, who currently
lives in Nigeria, West Africa.
Hurlstone was an avid book-reader and deeply loved music; particularly jazz and reggae and knew the background history of most of the artists he loved. He also had a deep appreciation of nature.
Hurlstone had worked at one time as a Housekeeping Supervisor at Providence Medical Center. Later, he worked alongside Leroy at "M8, located in the Randolph, MO. Caves and S.P. Richards in south Kansas City.
He last worked at Empire Candle Co., in the Fairfax district of Kansas City, Kansas; a job in which he told Leroy he enjoyed most.
At approximately 2:20pm on June 1, 2023, Pastor Nunes drew his last breath as he collapsed shortly after arriving at work at Empire Candle.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Robinson, his fiancée, Rosemary Trust Oki, brothers, Lauriston (Wendy)and Albert; sisters Veronica and Christine; three nieces and a grandnephew, as well as many cousins and friends.
A mighty flame has slowly dwindled away but will never be fully extinguished!!! We will forever celebrate his contribution and memory!!!
