Obituary

Imogene (Williams) Buckner, 67, was born on March 17, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Anthony and Dorothy Mae Williams. Her parents preceded in death.

Imogene received her education in both the Chicago Public School District and the Kansas City Public School District. Education was very important to Imogene and she continued to pursue her education at various colleges throughout her life. She was often concerned about others and their pursuits in life, counseling young people to stay in school and finish their education.

Professing her hope in Christ at an early age, she become a member of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church. She would eventually settle at Bethlehem Christian Assembly as an adult. She loved to teach. She had a knack of knowing how to break everything down into lessons. This included instructing her children in how to perform household chores, harmonies for songs, and lessons from scriptures. After years of serving others in various occupations, she realized that she wanted to teach and was able to accomplish that at Grace Baptist Church as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher.

Eventually meeting and marrying the love of her life, Milford Buckner Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Buckner would remain together for 35 years until her death on May 14, 2019. Imogene was a good sister and daughter, a loving mother, a devoted wife and most of all a faithful Christian.

Surviving to cherish her memories are her husband; Milford Buckner; children, LaDonna Johnson, Makeila (DeAndre) Lewis, Kimberly Rhodes, Maria (Kenneth) Carruthers, Alicia Buckner, and Milford "Kenny" (Tara) Buckner III; siblings, Ann Cohens, Anthony Williams, Carolyn Omoruyi, and Denita (Larry) Johnson; one Goddaughter, sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services Tuesday, May 21, 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Assembly. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on website.
