Obituary

Inez Allen, 93, KCMO, passed away on April 4, 2016. She was born in Edwardsville, Kansas on May 23, 1922 to Earl Graves and Mary Louise (Wilson) Graves. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister. Inez attended school in Holliday, Kansas from first grade to fifth grade. She later attended Stowe School in Kansas City, Kansas through 6th grade while living with her aunt and uncle. She attended Northeast High School and Sumner High School graduating in the Class of 1940. Inez worked in private homes, as well as for Woolworth and Crown Drug Store. Afterwards, she was a homemaker until children were older, then she went to work at Providence Hospital as a nurse's aide. She remained there for nineteen years, retiring in 1983. Inez married to Frank Allen, Sr. on September 23, 1943 and to this union two children were born. He also preceded her in death. Inez accepted Christ at age thirteen in Holliday, Kansas under the leadership Elder Solomon Mills and was baptized in the creek in Holliday, Kansas. She joined Bethel Baptist Church under Rev. L.C. Rice in 1951 and was baptized again at the request of her pastor. She worked with the Sunbeam Children, sang in Bethel Nite Choir, and served in the Mission, Nurses Guild and Motherboard. Mother Allen remained there under the leadership of Rev. R.C. Higgs and was honored in 2001 for fifty years of membership and service. She also was a faithful member under Pastor Meredith Sullivan in 2010, realizing he was one of her Sunbeam's. Mother Allen was a members of the Mission Group known as 'Charlie's Angels', under the leadership of Pastor Charles E. Mitchell, Sr. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her son, Minister Frank Allen, Jr.; daughter, Erma Allen Jackson; sisters, Allene Shoats and Leatrice (Graves) McCallop (Rudy); eight grandchildren, James Halley, Jr. (Aggie), Michelle Martin, Robert Allen Halley, Sterling Halley, Frank Allen III (Veronica), Nina Allen Graves (Charles), Freddie S. Walker (Jody), and Kourtney L. Allen (Courtney); eleven great grandchildren, Frank IV, John Iman, Coedi, Christian, Kamryn, Crystal, Bladermier, Natalie., Robert Jr., Janelle, and Jylian Rose; great-great grandchild, Roxanne; play daughters, Betty Green, Shirley Davis and Jessie Franklin; care givers, Emerald McElroy, Cheryl Bausby and Eveleena Johnson; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16, 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment Old Quindaro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on this website.
