J. Austin
Turner Ii
Mar 5, 1996 — Nov 13, 2018
James "Austin" Turner II, 22, was born March 5, 1996, weighing 2lbs. 11 oz. to Roselyn Turner and James Austin Turner. His father preceded him in death. He leaves to celebrate his life, his sister Connie Cooley; his grandmother, Shirley Ann Looney whom he so dearly loved and got to spend time with almost every day; his great grandmother Doris Nadine Whitmire; a loving family of nieces, nephews (especially Ryan), uncles, Ricky, Floyd, Mark, and aunts Doris, Florence, Lynn, and Toni; great uncles and aunts and cousins, and a host of special family and friends, who will miss him. Austin also leaves to cherish his memories, his girlfriend Kristal Perry, who he loved and enjoyed sharing time together.
Austin loved life and loved to go. He loved shooting baskets with either hand, being in the pool every day, cooking, sweeping, raking, and helping others. Austin was a son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, worker, traveler, dancer, musician, cook, student, athlete, swimmer, teacher, honey bunch, and friend. Austin was the food police, asking everyone he met, "What did you eat for breakfast?" and always had a smile and handshake for you.
Austin was most proud of graduating in May 2018 from the University of Missouri Kansas City Propel Program, receiving his Leadership Employment and Community Engagement degree from the Department of Psychology. He demonstrated his leadership by showing others what is possible to achieve, hard work, and showing others how important it is for us all to work together. He completed the Summer Transportation Institute Program, an internship at the Kaufman Center for Performing Arts, and Children's Mercy, and the Truman Kitchen Assistant Training Program.
Austin's favorite things included Raegan Schurr, and the wonderful YMCA Challenger Program, a member since 2006, where he played basketball, baseball, tennis, football, bowling, and attended almost every social outing with the Young Adult Social Program, and a model for the 10 year Challenger Celebration, representing the big guy well. Austin loved music with Janna Cochran, singing and playing instruments, reading with Lorrie Wolf, and Boys Scout Rotary Camp with all of his friends.
Austin was amazing and touched a lot of people. He benefited from the love and support of so many teachers, therapists, friends, family, and assistants that believed in him, and helped him become the young man we all loved, and will miss!
