James
Berry
Apr 29, 1948 — Aug 26, 2026
Overland Park, KS
James built a life centered around family, friendship, hard work, and enjoying the company of those he loved.
James Berry entered this life on April 29, 1948, and throughout his 78 years, he built a life centered around family, friendship, hard work, and enjoying the company of those he loved. On August 26, 2026, James completed his earthly journey, leaving behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to be shared by all who knew him.
James was a man who valued relationships. During his years working at General Motors, he developed many lasting friendships. To many of his coworkers and friends, James became much more than a colleague. He was regarded as a big brother, someone whose presence, personality, and friendship made an impression long after the workday ended.
James took pride in his appearance. He was known for being well dressed, clean, and impeccably groomed. He believed in presenting himself well and carried that same sense of pride into the other areas of his life.
Family held a special place in James' heart. He loved his sisters, nieces, nephews, and the generations that followed. He especially enjoyed spending time with the children in his family. Whether he was taking the kids to baseball games, attending their sporting events, or simply spending time together, James made it a point to be present. He enjoyed watching them participate in their activities and took genuine pleasure in supporting them.
James also knew how to enjoy life. He was very social and loved entertaining and hosting parties. He enjoyed bringing people together, filling a room with conversation, laughter, food, and fellowship. Those gatherings became part of the memories his family and friends will continue to cherish.
His faith was also a part of his life's foundation. James was baptized at Wayside Community Church in the Methodist faith.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Berry; his sister, Velma Jean Bettis; and other beloved family members who passed before him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Cheryl Trotter (Jimmy); his sisters, Roseland Patterson of Columbia, TN, JoAnn Obie of Kansas, Mo., and Shirley Stevenson of Kansas City, Mo.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, former coworkers, and dear friends.
James Berry will be remembered for the way he carried himself, the friendships he cultivated, the family he loved, and the many moments of fellowship he created. His earthly journey may have reached its sunset, but the stories, laughter, and memories of James Berry will remain with those who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
