James L. Davis, 66, passed away on September 26, 2019 at the home. He was born February 1, 1953 in Stateline, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his mother Idella Davis-Fisher; father Emmitt Smith, and grandparents Odell & Izola Davis and Manual & Bennie Smith.

James was the first grandchild of Odell and Izola Davis. His grandparents raised him from the age of two years old. He had a very special bond with grandparents and was more like a brother than nephew to his fifteen aunts and uncles. He loved his grandparents dearly and called his grandad, Chief.

James attended Green County High School in Leakesville, MS. He later moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1970. On October 25, 1972, he married Beverly Crutchfield of Kansas City, Missouri. From that union they birthed three children. He served his country by joining the United States Navy in 1973. In his later years, James worked at XII Gates Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Missouri.

James attended various churches in the Kansas City area including Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and Spruce St. Matthew Baptist Church. He loved the Lord stating, "I'm saved, I'm not worried, I know where I'm going".

James loved sports including football (the Kansas City Chiefs), baseball and basketball. James had a great sense of humor. He loved telling stories and talking about the good ole days in Mississippi. He loved his quiet time, reading his bible and playing solitaire.

James leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Angel Bennett (Theary) and Takiyah Taylor; two sons; James Davis, Jr. (Tamara) and Angelon Davis of Kansas City, Mo; five brothers, Isaiah Fisher (Sheri) of Kansas City, Mo, Lester Fisher, Johnnie Stuart Fisher, Steve Fisher and Mayo Fisher of Tampa, FL; five sisters, Carolyn Fisher of Kansas City, MO, Johnnie Mae Fisher, Theresa Fisher, Jeannie Fisher and Barbra Fisher of Tampa, FL; five grandsons, Dominique, Derrian, James, Markell, and Ty'Rell; four granddaughters, Tiera, Myesha, Schayler and Nevaeh all of Kansas City, Mo; and a host of uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends.
