James E. Lewis Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021, at Kansas City Veteran Memorial Hospital. He was born November 4th, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois to Moses and Alma Lewis.
James accepted Christ at an early age at United Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois.
In 1971, James was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War as a Field Artillery soldier until his honorable discharge in 1977. A couple of his favorite things to do was to feed the homeless and deliver meals to the firefighters, I wish everyone could see the smile on his face. It was very clear he had a passion and a calling for serving others; you knew you were going to be taken care of if he had anything to do with it.
James truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, such as talking with friends and family, sharing stories and joking. He had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. We already miss you so very much.
James is survived by his wife Marjorie A. Lewis of eight years; three children, James Jr. (Katrina), Jermaine (Deja) both of Chicago, and Patrick Belk of Aurora, IL; eight grandchildren: Ishmael, Khadijah, Isaiah, Khalla, Brandon, Netrick, Patrick II and Apollo, all of Chicago, IL. he also is survived by great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by loving parents Moses and Alma Lewis, brothers; Robert Earl Lewis, Donald Lewis, and his son Moses Lewis.
