Obituary

Deacon James Bernard Moore, 66, KCMO, passed away at Truman Medical Center on November 17, 2016. He was born September 13, 1950, the third son of Julius and Mattie Moore in Kansas City, Missouri. James accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of seven at St. Stephen Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. John W. Williams. Growing up at St. Stephen, James was very active in many of the youth organizations including the boy Scouts of America where he achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. In 1983, James joined Cleveland Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ellis Price. During his membership at CABC, he sang in the male chorus, taught Adult Sunday school class for ten years and served as Deacon for the youth department until his health declined. James received his education in the Kansas City, Missouri school district, graduating from Lincoln Senior High School in 1968. After graduation, James enlisted in the United States Navy. When his tour of duty was complete he returned to Kansas City as a welder for Western Electric in Lee's Summit, where he worked until his health began to fail. James enjoyed sports especially watching the Chiefs and debating with the grandsons Justin and Jordan, but his passion was studying God's word. His favorite scripture can be found in Joshua 24:15 (but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord). He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife forty-two years, Lenda; three sons, Cedric (Brandy), Remond and William (Monique); four grandsons, Ethan, Jordan, Justin and Mr. CJ; one brother, Julius Edward (Renee); three sisters, Coleto, Arletha (Dywane) and Susan; father-in-law, Jerry Brasfield, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Curtis, Jerry Jr., Billy and Dennis; sisters-in-law, Oretha, Patricia, Perlie (Roosevelt), Clidy and Bonda; a niece who he considered a daughter, Zion Porter (and her parent); Goddaughter, Idella Reed; God-grands, Nevaeh Henderson and Ardell Hooker II, along with a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 26, 11:00 a.m. at Cleveland Avenue Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
