James W. Roberson, Sr., was born December 30, 1936 to Goldie Hill and Harvey Patterson, in Platte City, MO but was raised by loving parents William and Savannah Roberson in Kansas City, MO. James was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri school district. He was employed at and retired from Ralston Purina in Kansas City, Missouri. He had many talent and skills in home improvement and auto repair. We often joked that he was a 'Master of Many Skills', if you could get past the lecturing. He truly loved hosting holiday events at his home located at 3924 Tracy in KCMO where he resided for over 40 years. James united in marriage to Mamie Sue Anglin for 20 years; and later married Teresa Bank who preceded him n death. He was a long-time member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, then located at 14th and Woodland in KCMO, initially joining under the leadership of the late Rev. F.C. Connery, followed by the late Rev. A.L. Johnson, Sr. and now under the leadership of Rev. Michael Brooks. James attended regularly until his health began to fail. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 20th, 2016 at Research Medical Center with family by his side. James W. Roberson, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents William and Savannah Roberson, Goldie Hill, and Harvey Patterson. Siblings - Lydia Ware, Kenneth 'Bo' Patterson, Helen Stiggers, Moses Patterson, Harry Patterson, Suzanne Lucas and Othella Patterson. James leaves to cherish his memories his children; Ron (Liana) Peterson, James W. Roberson, Jr., Dorselle Roberson, Connie Banks (Jermaine), Latasha Roberson, his grandchildren; Deron Peterson, Teresa McCray, Zaid Steele-Peterson, Treniya Peterson, Zanai Peterson, one great-grandson; Solomon McCray, his siblings; Barbara (Donald) Dennis, Ruthie Elliott, Alfred Roberson, Marsha Brown, Granville Lacy, Anthony Lacy, Candice (Vincent) Brown, Delores Barnett, Alysce Edwin, Sheila Hill and brother-in-law Clifford Ware. James had a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, co-workers and neighbors that will miss him dearly but hold onto the good times. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 28, 11:00 a.m. at Living Word of Christ Ministry. Private disposition. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
