James "Jim" Stephens, age 86, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Thursday,

August 29, 2024 at Brookdale Senior Living in Overland Park, Kansas.

Jim was born May 9, 1938 in Lumberton, North Carolina to James and Almeanr (Powell)

Stephens and graduated from JH Hayward High School in Lumberton. After honorably

serving in the United States Air Force, Jim began working at General Motors, retiring

from the Olathe Battery Plant.

In life he never met a stranger and made many wonderful friends. He served several

years as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 62 and in later years became an enthusiastic

swimmer, creating great memories with the Barracuda Swim Team.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Johnny Lee Stephens,

Delanie Stephens and David Earl Stephens.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marva Brown Stephens; son Bryan (Jean)

Stephens, Kansas City, Missouri and daughter Dawana Stephens, Kansas City,

Missouri; brother Ricky Stephens of Lumberton, North Carolina; sisters Mary Stephens

of Lumberton, North Carolina, Katie Cooper of Palm Coast, Florida, Evonne Stephens

of Flushing, New York and Malissah Stephens of Lumberton, North Carolina; in-laws,

nieces and nephews.
