Obituary

James T. Whitney III, 65, passed away on August 23, 2019 at the home. He was born April 8, 1954 to the union of James T. Whitney, Jr. and Alice (McCoy) Whitney in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather, James Pearson; grandmother, Elizabeth Pearson; step-father, Garland Belcher; sister, Carolyn Jones; uncles, Charles Whitney and Fred Whitney; and aunt Nana Mae.

As a lifelong area resident, James was educated in the Kansas City Missouri public schools and was a graduate of Westport High School. He was employed by the City of Kansas City Missouri as an equipment operator and later became a supervisor for over thirty years. He retired in April 2003. James was united in marriage to the former Ms. Jeannette Lewis and to this union a son was born. He loved music and was the "Two Stepping King". He was a loving husband, father and brother who will always be remembered as a gentleman with a loving soul. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Jeannette Whitney; five sons, James V. Hatcher, James L. Whitney, Keith E. Ford, Kenneth E. Ford and Bryne J. Whitney; mother, Alice Belcher; two brothers, Foster E. Jones and Keith Jones (Shervette); five sisters, Diane Elliott (Richard), Debra Whitney, Valorie Affandi, Jacqueline Lindmark (Victor) and Barbara Adams; mother-in-law, Rachel Ferguson; two brothers-in-law, Richard Elliott and John Crawford; sister-in-law, Vivian Ferguson; best friend, Derrick Folkes; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Tuesday, September 3, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
