Obituary

Janie Belle Budgett was born on March 23, 1945, to loving parents John Wesley Martin Sr. and Mamie C.L. O'Neal in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by both parents; her sisters, Helen Cargile, Roberta Pete, Olivia Martin, Juanita Brown, and Aurtis Martin; her brothers, John Wesley Martin Jr., Howard Martin, Curtis Martin, Lonnie Martin, Lionel Martin, Harry Martin, Charles Martin; and one great-nephew, Mark Ashley.

Janie was educated in the South Carolina school system and graduated from McCrorey-Liston High School.

With a heart full of ambition and dreams, Janie moved to Kansas City, MO, where she built a beautiful and fulfilling life, creating a home filled with warmth, love, and joy.

Janie dedicated her career to the healthcare field, serving as the supervisor of nutrition. Through her work, she cared for others not just with her expertise but with kindness and compassion. Cooking for family and friends was more than just a pastime—it was her way of expressing love. She delighted in preparing meals, bringing people together over food, and sharing moments of laughter and togetherness. Her love for cooking extended beyond the kitchen as she enjoyed watching cooking shows, always eager to learn something new after catching up on her favorite daytime soap operas and game shows.

Janie carried herself with elegance and took great pride in her appearance, always dressing with style and grace. Her home was a reflection of her personality—beautiful, welcoming, and always immaculate.

Family was Janie's greatest treasure, and she adored every single loved one. Her heart was open to all, and she never met a stranger. Her hospitality was unmatched; if you were in her presence, you felt cherished, and you were never without a plate of home-cooked food and a warm embrace.

Janie leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. She is survived by her beloved children, Anthony (Arlene) Martin, Conyous "Connie" (Vaughn) Reese, and Shakedra Budgett. Her memory will also be cherished by her sister, Barbara (Donald) Cook of Newberry, South Carolina; her brothers-in-law, Silas Eubanks Jr. of Belton, MO, and Charles Brown of Baltimore, Maryland; her precious grandchildren, Anthony Martin Jr., Cayla Reese, Jaurdan Budgett, and Lundyn Gates; and her three great-grandchildren, Seryniti Reese, Tristen Williams, and Aubrielle Williams. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Janie's radiant spirit, boundless love, and unwavering generosity will forever be cherished by all who knew her. While she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched. May we honor her memory by carrying forward the same love, kindness, and joy that she so freely shared with the world.
