Jelean
Shelton
Jun 1, 1937 — Mar 8, 2019
Jelean Shelton, 81, was born on June 1, 1937 in Blackton, Arkansas to the late Arthur Fox, Sr. and Rosie Fox. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Fox, Jr., William Fox, Roosevelt Fox and Danny Mosby; and her sisters, Dorothy Allen, Rosie Washington, Nancy Butler and Georgia Mosby.
Jelean confessed in Christ at an early age. She joined True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1980's where she served on the Usher Board and the Kitchen Committee until her health started to deteriorate. As a cook by trade, she was employed for many years at the Little Sister's of the Poor Nursing Home, and later at the Kansas City Art Institute where she retired in the late 1980's due to health reasons. After retiring, she became "The Babysitter" for many family members and friends who needed her service.
Affectionately known as "Auntie" to many family and friends, she met no strangers and would do whatever she could to help others. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family. Her Sunday dinners will be missed. Although she had no children of her own, she had a great passion for kids, and played a big role in the rearing of many of the kids in her family and friends.
She departed this life on Friday, March 8, 2019 at home surrounded by her family. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her beloved sister, Ida Bell King of Kansas City, MO; her sister's children that she raised after her sister's passing, Priscilla Allen, Paula Allen, and Cortney Allen of Kansas City, MO and Timmy Allen of Kansas City, KS; special great niece and her children, Ashley Allen, Amiyah Allen, and Gianna Allen-Thomas; as well as host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
