Jessie M.
Harris
Jan 17, 1926 — Mar 31, 2018
Jessie Mae Harris, 92, was born January 17, 1926 to Cornellius Love and Hattie Mae (Zilla) Love, the eldest child of six children. She departed this lie March 31, 2018 with her family by her bedside.
Jessie attended school in Kinta, Oklahoma. She professed hope in Christ at an early age in 1938. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Curtis Harris on September 17, 1945 in Stigler, Oklahoma, and to this union seven children were born.
In 1947, Jessie and her husband moved to Kansas City, Missouri and joined Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Daniel Robinson. In 1967, eight people gathered in the home of the late Dea. Curtis and Sis. Jessie Harris at 3210 Victor to discuss a name for the church. They agreed on Shiloh because it represented the vision in which God brought them together. In July 1975, Sis. Jessie Harris marched from 3512 E. 27th Street to 3001 Cleveland Avenue singing, "We've Come This Far By Faith". Her favorite song was "I Will Trust in the Lord". Jessie sang in Mission Choir (her song was Rock of Ages) and served as the financial secretary, announcement clerk, Junior Sunday school teacher, and active superintendent of the Sunday school department. She served the Lord well and her leadership will always live on in the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Jessie was a homemaker. Her husband Curtis, two sons Eric and Michael, daughter Hazel Bentley, brother Archie Love, two sisters Faye Love and Beatrice Love, all preceded her in death.
Jessie leaves to mourn in her passing: one loving and devoted daughter Valerie Ann Harris; three sons, Anthony C. Harris, Karl L. Harris, and Jonathan Harris all of KCMO; one brother, Alfred Love; one sister, Naomi Wiles; thirty grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
