Obituary

Jessie Mae Watts was born January 17, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Lela and Ernest Watts. Jessie graduated from Northeastern High School, where she met James Cornell Buffen. They wed in 1950, and during this marriage Jessie birthed and parented three kids: Linda Buffen O'Neal, John Buffen III, and Robert Buffen. Jessie was also blessed to have Jean Foschee as a daughter. Jessie was preceded in death by her spouse, Cornell Buffen, her two sons, John and Robert Buffen and her brother, Ernest Watts. Jessie leaves to mourn Linda O'Neal, Booker O'Neal and Jean Forshee. Siblings grieving the loss of Jessie are Ozell Blocker, Betty Porter, and Willie Watts (Pat Watts). She also leaves behind five loving grandsons; Sean, Dante, Desmond, Ridafen, and Maurice and one granddaughter, Crystal: ten great grand kids, and a host of nieces and nephews. Jessie Watts was employed by the Jewish Home for the Aged in Detroit, MI for over 20 years as a receptionist/secretary. She often engaged with the residents at the Jewish Home and was always willing to lend a helping hand to them. Jessie lived her life for Linda, John, and Bobby, always putting them first in all of her decisions and her behaviors. She enjoyed some traveling, music and being an attentive loving mom. Jessie lived in her private home for over 30 years, until her illness impaired her daily life functions. She then resided at East Grand Nursing Home for eight years. In August 2008, she relocated to New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, MO to be close to her daughter and son-in-law. Jessie was loved by all the nursing home staff. She often made them laugh. On May 24, 2018, God got really close and hugged Mama, whispered in her ear, and said let's go, and like an obedient child she said, "ok." To know Jessie was to love her and to know that she would be there for you. Funeral services Friday, June 1, 10:00 a.m. at Wilson-Akins Funeral Home in Detroit, Michigan. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan. Condolences may be shared on our website.
