Jimmie Joe Cook, 73, KCKS, passed away at his home on December 17, 2016. He was born in Mexico, Missouri on May 11, 1943, the son of Alonzo Verlin and Sylvia Joyce Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents Verlin and Joyce Cook; sister, Shirley (Hayes) Bradford and an infant sibling. Jimmie attended Mexico High School graduating with the Class of 1961. One of his first jobs was working as a Caterer at the Mexico Country Club. He also held the position of Assistant Manager of the Mexico Tags, the first All Negro Baseball League for Women formed by the Late Mildred Gardner. After moving to Kansas City in the late 60's, Jimmie began working for Trinity Lutheran Hospital where he met many friends after thirty-seven years of service. He also worked at Research Psychiatric Hospital and did catering and floral arrangements for weddings as a pastime. Jimmie was a floral designer for the Rain Florist and Leland's Flower Shop. He also designed funeral arrangements for Duane E. Harvey, Elite, Serenity and Golden Gate funeral homes. He loved flowers and looked forward to the time he spent in the floral shops. One of his favorite past times was teaching anyone that wanted to learn how to make 'The Perfect Bow'. He was a perfectionist and took pride in all the work he did. Over the years many have been blessed to have received one of his masterpiece arrangements, wreaths, perfectly wrapped gifts or centerpieces. Although he did not have any children of his own, his nieces and nephews were his pride and joy, and he took an active role in raising each and every one of them. Jimmie gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Trinity Independent Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Timothy Boos. He remained a faithful member until his passing. Jimmie is survived by his sister, Betty (Cook) Smith of Grandview, MO; nephews, Travis Cook of Lee's Summit, MO, Eric Cook of Lee's Summit, MO, Stacy Smith of KCMO and Howard Bradford of KCMO; nieces, Gina (Cook) Hopkins of KCMO and Marsha Bradford-Gethers of Cypress, TX; long time friend, Roger Bailey and a host of great nephews, great nieces, other relatives and friends.
