JoAnn (Barton) Commack, 74, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away on August 9, 2017 at the home. She was born March 19, 1943 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Paul Sr. and Mable (Daniel) Barton. She was preceded in death by both loving parents; her eldest brother, Willie 'Bo' James Bluitt and her eldest sister, Elizabeth Barton-Morrow. JoAnn was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1961. She continued her education by attending Penn Valley Community College where she earned her Associate's degree and the University of Missouri - Kansas City where she received her Bachelors of Arts degree. Early in her career JoAnn worked as a social worker at the Division of Family Services in Kansas City, Missouri. She then found her passion as an educator teaching third - seventh graders in the KCMO School District, from which she retired. She loved her students! JoAnn was united in marriage to Roosevelt Commack, Sr. in 1961. From that union three sons were born, Roosevelt Harrison Jr., Roland Jerome and Randall Cornelius. She loved shopping, travelling, music and dancing. She also enjoyed going to the movies, but nothing was more important than spending time with her beloved children and family. She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved sons, Roosevelt H. Commack, Jr. (Sharon), Roland J. Commack and Randall C. Commack; brothers, Paul Barton, Jr., Phillip Barton and Michael Barton (Vanessa); sister, Shirley 'Cookie' Barton-Richmond; grandchildren, Rosanna Smith (Will) and Roland Commack, Jr.; great granddaughter, ZeRuiah and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Friday, August 18, 11:00 a.m. at Shalom Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
