Our beloved was born on October 16, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the fifth born child of nine to Louis B. Dickerson and Thelma H. (Southall) Dickerson.
Both parents, five siblings, one son in law Eugene Brown, and his wife of 54 years preceded him in death. Joe attended and graduated from Rosedale High School in Kansas City, KS. On April 22, 1961, Joe was joined in holy matrimony to Helen Jo (Brown) Dickerson and to this union four children were born.
He retired from Lake City Small Arms Ammunition Plant in 2013, after over 45 years of service. Joe built lifelong friendships while becoming an expert Machine Specialist at Lake City. Past co-workers describe Joe as a "bright spot" at Lake City.
Affectionately known as Mr. Dickey, he was loved most for his strong and quiet demeanor. Joe enjoyed bowling, fishing, and any household mechanical duty. As he would often say, "I like a challenge!"
Joe peacefully passed away from this life into the arms of God surrounded by loved ones on April 11, 2022. He is sure feeling "Fair to Middling" now as he would often say. Still our heroic, loving, and forever stoic Dad, PaPa, Uncle, and Brother.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters Linnette Dickerson of the home, Janice Dickerson (David Harvey) of Kansas City, MO, and Phyllis Brown of Lee's Summit, MO. One son Derrick J. Dickerson (Tameka) of Lee's Summit, MO. Three sisters Rose Starr of Moreno Valley, CA, Karen Dickerson and Julia Starks (Nathaniel) of Kansas City, MO. Eight grandchildren Gregory Allen, Laketta Neel, Tenika Jones, Alexandria Brown, Tyra Brown, Bryce Dickerson, Tyler Bass, and Derrick Dickerson Jr. Twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
