Obituary

Joegina Lorain Davis-Neely, 36, passed away on December 16, 2017. She was born February 22, 1981 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Tony Brown and Tammy Davis. Joegina's first name was unique; she was named after her maternal grandfather, Joe, and took on the middle name, Gina, from both of her grandmother and mother.

Joegina attended Pinkerton Latin Grammar and Paseo Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended and graduated from the Guadalupe Culinary Program in 2003, as she loved cooking.

Many people had a positive influence on Joegina. Her grandmother Delma Davis was her rock for keeping the family together. She taught Joegina many lessons such as forgiveness and compassion. Mrs. Davis preceded her in death in 2006. Another person who influenced Joegina life was her first-grade teacher Alice Lee Garlington and subsequently her daughter Alyce Edwards. They inspired Joegina to dream big and the importance of a good education. Later in life, Joegina referred to Mrs. Garlington as her "Aunt "and her daughter, Ms. Edwards as her "Big Sister."

Joegina was a romantic at heart. She always looked at the good in others. Because of the many challenges she faced in life, Joegina cared about people, especially those who were lonely and forgotten. She followed her passion of helping others by choosing a career working with senior citizens and individuals with physical and mental disabilities.

Joegina was passionate about her family. In her immediate family, Joegina was the big sister. She was the one that everyone depended upon in keeping the family connected. The center of her life was her four children. Joegina loved and fought for family with every ounce of her strength. Her mission in life was to provide a loving and nurturing environment for her children. She was unselfish in allowing Mrs. Shelly Foster and others to help her raise her children. One of her proudest moments recently was seeing her son, Joshua, graduate from high school. She was looking forward to becoming a grandmother for the first time in March.

Joegina left this world unexpectedly and too soon. She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters Bilqis Rollie, Jordyn Donahue Foster, Porsche Donahue, and a son, Joshua Lee Davis; her parents, Tammy Davis and Tony Brown; her children; three brothers, Edward Eugene Davis, James Earl Davis, and Welton Deshuan Davis; an aunt, Angela Lorraine Davis; her adopted big sister, Alyce Edwards, and a host of other relatives and friends, all who miss her dearly.
