John Belcher Sr., 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully at his home on June 4, 2021. John was born on June 13, 1936, in Hope, Ark., to Lawnella Murphy and Zeke Belcher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ophelia; son, Vincent; daughters, Seritha and Zeola; grandfather, George Murphy; grandmother, Essie Murphy; mother, Lawnella; sisters, Annie and Marie; and brother-in-law, Herman.
He spent the bulk of his life in Hope, Ark., with his grandparents before the family relocated to Kansas City in 1950, where he met his wife, Ophelia. John enlisted in the Army and served his country in the Korean War. He was discharged following his service and he returned to Kansas City where he and Ophelia raised his growing family. He worked as a truck driver and eventually as a produce manager at Walmart. He was avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He was also a lifetime supporter of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.
He leaves behind two sons, John Jr. and Bryan; two grandchildren, Tennille and Domnick (Ty-Juana); 6 great grandchildren, Henry, Diavionne, Jasmine, Moja, Dayon, Clydelle; one great great grandchild, Aubree; sister, Evelyn Money; and host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
