John R.
Harvey
May 18, 1935 — Sep 21, 2017
John R. Harvey, 82, was born May 18, 1935 in Armstrong, Missouri to the late James and Jetta (Wayland) Harvey. "Johnny", as he was affectionately known, received his formal education in Armstrong, Missouri and attended Dalton Vocational High School. Johnny accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Eric Belt until his health permitted him from doing so. His faith remained constant until the Lord called him home. Johnny was employed by several farms as a general laborer, before retiring from Woodley Janitorial Services after years of dedicated service. Johnny was united in marriage to Ms. Barbara Jean Holley-Harvey on May 12, 1980. She preceded him in death, followed by a devoted companion of over twenty years, Eleanor Rushing. Johnny was known as a friendly person to the community of Armstrong. He loved teaching children about the sport of basketball and baseball, as he was an exceptional baseball player. Johnny departed this life on September 21, 2017 at Westridge Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Frank Miller, Rev. Romie Miller, Cleo Miller, Melvin Miller, Walter Miller, Lewis Miller and James Harvey who passed away shortly after his death. He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Robert D. Boone (Cheryl); daughters, Tammie Holley, Rita Holley-Wallace (Erie) and Joyce M. Cole; brother, Richard Harvey (Evon); sister, Thelma Harvey; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
