John W. Witherspoon 87, transitioned to Glory on March 6, 2023, at Kansas City Hospice in Kansas City, MO. He was born on October 9, 1935, in Moundville, AL to Albert and Ethel Witherspoon.
He grew up in Moundville, AL where he was raised in a God-fearing household. In his early 20's he relocated to Kansas City, MO where he became well known and affectionately called Spoon. He worked for General Motors for over 30 years where he eventually retired from and lived the rest of his life in the Kansas City area until his transition.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Felisa, his parents Albert and Ethel Witherspoon, his daughter Shirley Dean Robinson, his sister Virginia Edwards, and two brothers James and Searlie Witherspoon.
On September 4, 1992, John married his wife Felisa and they stayed married until Felisa's transition to glory on July 25, 2021. John brought five children Shirley, Patrita, Johnette, John, and Anthony with him into the union and Felisa bought two children David and Roger. John was blessed to have 10 grandchildren.
He had strong faith and believed in strong family values. John was an avid KC Chiefs fan and enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, traveling and most of all spending time with his family.
John leaves to cherish his memory two daughters Patrita Cummings of Chicago, IL and Johnette Witherspoon of CA; four sons John Blankinship, Anthony Witherspoon, David (Mika) McConnell, and Roger (April) McConnell, all of Kansas City, MO; two bonus daughters Vina Moore and Kathryn Blankinship both of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren to include Asia, Jamia, Antanae, Lil John, Jameer, Anthony Jr., Elemmuel, Jayden, Taylor, and Tyran; one brother Frank (Barbara) Witherspoon of Ypsilanti, MI; one sister-in-love Sheila Freeman of Kansas City, MO; to brother -in-loves Mike (Linda) Martin and Quentin West of Kansas City, MO; and a host of family and friends.
