Obituary

Johnnie Mae Burks was born April 11, 1921 to Pearlie Bostick and J.T. Johnson in Tallassee, Alabama. Johnnie Mae was united in Holy matrimony to the late Frank James Burks and to this union 1 child was born, James Wilson Burks. Bother parents, her husband, six sisters, five brothers, her son James Wilson Burks and Bobby Joe Johnson, Kenneth Earl Magruder and Jasper Magruder proceeded her in death.

During Johnnie Mae's early years, her gift of love and compassion was given with her sister Area L Miller. Johnnie Mae and Area Lee joined together after the death of their mother and sisters within a 2-month period and raised their sister's children as their own. During Johnnie Mae's early years she was a singer with the Johnson sister's (her sister's) and she sang gospel throughout Alabama. Johnnie Mae accepted Christ at an early age and united with Collins Temple The Church Of Jesus Only, under the leadership of Bishop D. Collins. Then she moved her membership to Peter's Rock Church under the leadership of Rev. Robinson in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Johnnie Mae later moved to the greater, Kansas City area in 1980 to be around her sister Area Lee and family. She subsequently mover her membership to Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan. She was also an active member of "The Prayer Warriors" for many years.

One of Johnnie Mae's favorite saying was "I LOVE YOU AND YOU CAN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT". Also at times she could be quite comical and funny; she would start to tell a joke and couldn't finish this joke from laughing herself.

Johnnie Mae leaves to cherish her memory, Son Larry Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri, Daughter in law Paula Johnson of Chicago Illinois, Grandson James Wilson Burks Jr. of Omaha Nebraska, 2 Granddaughters, Tasha Burks and Nina Burks both of Omaha Nebraska, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
