Obituary

Johnny Lee Brooks, Jr., 61, was born November 30, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Johnny Lee Brooks, Sr. and Willie Floyd Brooks.

Johnny accepted Christ at an early age and was raised in Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Central High School in 1976 and attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas where he majored in Computer Science. After college, Johnny was hired at Bayer Corporation as a Computer Application Systems Analyst. He worked at Bayer for 25 years.

On August 26, 1978, he married his forever sweetheart, Tonia L. Hobley. To this union two children were born, Derek Leon an Eric Lamont. Johnny loved and is loved by his family. He was a good man, son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Johnny was a sports fanatic. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. When he wasn't attending the Chiefs or the Royals games, he was coaching baseball or building computers. He had the technical skills and the ability to repair broken computers and often used his gifts and skills with computers to bless many.

Johnny L. Brooks departed this earthly life April 12, 2019, while at Research Medical Center. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

He leaves with cherished memories: his wife of 40 years, Tonia L. Brooks; two sons, Derek L. Brooks (Mandy) and Eric L. Brooks; a granddaughter, Mya Brooks; his parents, Johnny L. Brooks, Sr. and Willie F. Brooks; three brothers, Dale E. Brooks, Michael E. Brooks (Mable) and Kenneth B. Brooks; three sisters, Janette M. Brooks, Cassandra E. Brooks, and Betty A. Davis. He also leaves a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, and a very special extended family (Tonia's parents) William and Gerald Ann Hobley & Family.

Funeral services Saturday, April 20, 11:00 a.m. at Canaan Worship Center. Private disposition. Family hour 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
