Obituary

Joseph Arnold Sr. at the age of 76 passed away on August 9, 2020 at his home with the special care of Crossroads Hospice. He was born on June 30, 1944 in New London, CT and lived the majority of his life in Kansas City, Missouri.

Joseph Sr. was one of two children born in union to Mr. John Z Arnold and Addie Mae Malone. He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Mrs. Delia Young.

Joe graduated from Manual High School in the class of 1962 where he developed the knowledge and trade of auto mechanics. Shortly after graduation from high school, he then married his wife of 58 years Margaret, of the marriage union three children were born. He began his working career at a car battery plant in Leavenworth, Kansas. Soon after he was called upon by the General Motors Corporation, where he began working at the Leeds Plant in 1965, he developed special friendships with Mr. James White and Mr. Bruce Harvey. He continued his work at General Motors until his retirement in Wentzville, Missouri after 33 years of service. After his retirement, he began driving a school bus for the Kansas City, Missouri school district Pre-K children. He also delivered meals-on-wheels to the elderly and the shut in community. Any one that knew him knows he loved two things: barbeque and dominos. He was a member of the Kansas City Barbeque Society for many years. During that time, he competed in the American Royal Barbeque and Lenexa Barbeque where he was a judge and competitor and won many awards and trophies. He would travel to domino tournaments & competitions and hold many cookouts and competitions at home in his backyard. With the knowledge from his father, a master electrician, he loved building and fixing any and everything in his spare time.

As the years began to pass, he loved going to socialize at Palestine Senior Center where he started his membership under Rev. Earl Abel. He spent time with family and friends as often as he could. He loved his children dearly, but he most of all loved his grandchildren.

He leaves behind to cherish his wife: Margaret Arnold, one son, Joseph Arnold Jr. (Sherrice), three daughters, Valerie Dupriest (Julius) Chandra Arnold and Tanya Yancey, seven grandchildren, Brett Arnold, Brice Parks, Brittany Arnold, Elana Jones, Erica Yancey, Shawntay Yancey, Terrance Yancey, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of gracious cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020, 11:00 am at Mt. Calvary COGIC. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 10:00 am -11:00 am at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to the COVID 19 Panademic all guest are required to wear mask.
