Josie L.
Randolph-Brown
Oct 11, 1935 — Nov 18, 2019
Josie Lee Randolph-Brown was born on October 11, 1935, in Starkville, Mississippi. She was the only child of Fernando and Bessie Hamilton, both preceded her in death. Sometime in the mid-1950s, she, along with her parents, moved to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1956 she moved to Kansas City, Missouri to attend the University of Kansas. While attending KU she lived at the YWCA in Kansas City, Missouri, located on the corner of 19th Street & Paseo. There she met her lifelong sister-friend Wanda Jean (Harvey) Nelson.
Josie married Alex Randolph (deceased) in1958. She was a valued employee of TM James & Sons China Company for many years, until the sale of the company. She then began her career at St. Luke's Hospital – Plaza, where she retired after 30+ years. She later obtained her real estate license operating in Kansas and Missouri. Josie thrived in real estate and loved helping people find their dream homes. The opportunity to help a seller find the right buyer and the buyer find the perfect home was the best feeling for her.
In 2002 she met and married the second love of her life, Willie H. Brown (deceased), aka Wee-Wee/Pops. They shared eleven wonderful years together. They were best friends and spent their retirement years enjoying traveling and entertaining friends and family.
Josie loved walking and had an amazing green thumb. She always had flowers around her yard and green plants around the house. She was a great cook (steaks, mac & cheese, and sweet potato pies); actually, she could cook just about anything. She loved to entertain, dance and spend time with her family. She was the spirit of hospitality, including allowing our friends to live with us whenever needed.
She was a long-time active member of Centennial United Methodist Church, serving as a Lay Leader, United Methodist Women member, Youth Group Coordinator, and Sanctuary Nurse Aid. She later became a member of Bethel AME Church, where she served on the usher board and the hospitality team. Her other affiliations included the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) and Black Methodist Churches for Renewal (BMCR) just to name a few. Of her many attributes, she was strong, independent, sassy, loved by everyone, and she never met a stranger. Josie's love for the Lord was evident through her many acts of service.
Josie departed this life on November 18, 2019. She will be sadly missed by everyone she touched, leaving in mourning: one sister Wanda J. Nelson, Raytown, MO, one son Howard C. Hamilton (Angela) Kansas City, KS; five daughters Gloria J. Roby, Kim Randolph, Karen L. McClellan (Steve) all of Kansas City, MO and Kathy M. Gamble-Brown (Colburn), Myrtle Beach SC, and Evene Brown, Kansas City, KS, 21 Grandchildren, 19 Great-grandchildren, and 11 Great-great grandchildren; best friend for life Carol Hayden, Lees Summit, MO; Calvin Daniels who was like a son to her, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
