Obituary

Joyce B. Carter was born November 21, 1949 in

Tuscumbia, Alabama, to Mattie Carter and Andrew

Bates. At a young age, her family relocated to Kansas

City, Missouri. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ

when she was baptized at Mount Zion, Church of God in

Christ in Kansas City, Kansas.

Joyce understood the value of education! She excelled

in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School System and

graduated from Central High School while working and

caring for her siblings. She was the catalyst for her

family's pursuit of academic matriculation. Joyce was a

single parent and was active participant in the schools

PTA and the SAC committee.

Joyce worked tirelessly with the spirit of excellence

throughout her life. She was employed at Electronic

National Battery, and DIT-MCO electronics. Her true

passion was to serve, develop, and inspire others.

Caregiving was her first nature. She operated from a

genuine heart of love and honesty, which led her to

serve as a healthcare professional until retirement.

Joyce was comical, which everyone enjoyed. She

showered us with her great sense of humor at every

moment's notice. She was also very blunt and real. Very

matter of fact and straight to the point. She always told

it exactly how it was.

Joyce is a branch in our family tree that will be missed.

She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, and

Great-Grandmother. Preceded in death by her parents:

Andrew Bates and Mattie Carter, and sisters: Diane

Pruitt and Delouise Simms.

Joyce will be cherished by her children: Wayne C. Carter

and Felicia Carter; Grandchildren: Joseph Carter,

Jalessa Carter and DeMarco Carter;

Great-Granchildren: Khai Carter, Jalen Jones and

Joseph Carter Jr.; Brother: Andrew Wayne Bates;

Sister-in-Law: Annetta Ford; and her Great Uncle:

Clemon Carter (Robin) and a host of nieces, nephews,

and cousins.

Joyce left these words of comfort to her family, the

Bates Family, the Carter Family and a host of friends, "I

have lived my life to be a part of yours.
