Judy Alma Sewell of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born on March 24, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Theodore and Alma Mockerman, Judy was known for her boundless creativity. Her talents shone through her work as a seamstress, florist, wedding planner, baker, and musician. Though considered a business owner, Judy rarely charged for her services. Instead, she generously donated her time and resources to weddings and other special occasions for friends, family, and her extended church family.

Judy was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and a current member of the Saints Haven Restoration Branch of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ. Her faith was the guiding force in her life. She eagerly shared the gospel of Christ through song and acts of service. Judy often spoke of the spiritual gifts described in 1 Corinthians 12:4–11—not as just another passage in the Bible, but as a call to action. She believed it was every Christian's duty to use the gifts God had given them to further the work of Christ on Earth.

On November 17, 1973, Judy married Russel Warren Sewell. Together, they shared 51 years of marriage, spending much of their time in Independence, MO, and central Missouri.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Alma Mockerman; her brother, Mark; her son, Ricky; her grandson, Ethan; and her great-grandson, Juan.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Russel; siblings, Elaine, Theodore, Sharon, George, Alvin, and Mary Beth; children, Joseph (Lonnie), Kelly, Stephanie, Samuel (Lindsay), and Tammy; grandchildren, Michael, Bethany, Missy, Mandy (Jake), Sariah, Chelsie, Robert, Harmony, Emily, Addison, and Mason; and great-grandchildren, Abbigale, Maevry, Sabrina, Jason, Jaiden, Novah, Naveah, Riley, and Noaeh.
