Obituary

Kathleen Martin, 59, was born November 19, 1957 in Kansas City, MO. She was the 3rd of 4 children of Charles W. and Lucille Martin. She departed this life on September 26, 2017. Kathleen was educated in the Kansas City Public School district where she attended D.A. Holmes Elementary School, Central Junior High School. She graduated from Central High School in 1976 and later went on to serve 7 years as the class Alumni Treasurer which she remained until her passing. She also attended Baker University where she received her Bachelor's degree. Kathleen Martin joined Second Baptist Church in 1989 under the pastorate of the late Dr. David O. Shipley, Sr. She loved the Lord, the church and enjoyed attending worship services along with her father. Kathleen had a beautiful smile and loving personality. She was always willing to help out in the church wherever needed. Kathleen didn't mind working and sometimes she'd work several jobs at one time. She was previously employed at GMAC, ADT and Crowd Systems. She worked at the Internal Revenue Service for 23 years until her passing. Kathleen was a member of the Twin City Riders Saddle Club. She was crowned the Queen of the Saddle Club and remained the reigning Queen until her death. The last parade she rode in was the 2017 St. Patrick's Day parade. She also enjoyed traveling to the Kentucky Derby with the saddle club. Kathleen loved to dance especially the KC 2-Step. She had a strong passion for shopping and never turned down an opportunity to travel. Kathleen was a strong advocate for education and always encouraged all youth to finish school and go on to higher learning. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her aunts Leona Jackson and Lelia Price, her uncles Leon Davis and Jimmie Jackson, cousins Angela Jackson and James "Butch" Jackson. Kathleen's memory is cherished by her siblings, Helena Gregory (Endist) of Lenexa, KS, Robert "Bobby" Martin and Melvin Martin both of Kansas City, MO; nieces, Eric A. Bledsoe (Dennis Fowler), Kellie Waschneck (Alex) and Camille Martin and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, October 7, 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
